KOLKATA:Much in the scare of the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 scare,when lakhs of people have been affected in the world due to COVID-19 and more than 140 cases in India of the disease,with kolkata having one affected person so far,the Chemistry Dept at Surendranath College,Sealdah headed by DR.Hari Shankar Biswas and his team of talented Professors has come with the most genuine and generous solution to keep the spreading of the coronavirus at check.
The Chemistry Dept prepared a liquid hand Sanitizer with the exact same formulation by WHO(World Health Organisation) named Sparsh,which alongwith the team of professors and students at the dept prepared as per formulations of Who ,thus making favourable and very affordable to use, just costing 30-35 rupees per 50 ml .
According to DR.HSB, when asked from where did they got this idea,he answered in a modest tone that they are chemists and it is one of the easiest formulation for them and the lack of Sanitizers being available was one of the concern for him and his team,so they decided to prepare the solution by them!
Sparsh,sanitizer is one of the cheapest in the market as per the quality and standard goes and is not like the general collloidal gel that we see in regular sanitizers as Sparsh is developed according to WHO guidelines and had been kept in quarantine for three days before being packed!
The State Health Department has been contacted for help regarding mass producing it at the lowest rates as possible. Dr.Hsb and other Professors including Dr.Lalita Das,Dr.Harishadan Ghosh ,Dr Apurba Biswas,Dr.Suchandra Chatterjee & students have contributed to this formulation. Moreover,this sanirizers will be given to slum dwellers for hygiene purposes.
The Chemistry Department is looking for proper utilisation of their Sanitizer product and they hope it reaches the masses.
Preparation ingredients – 835 ml ethanol (absolute) + 40 ml 3% peroxide + 15 ml 99.8% glycerol + 110 ml distilled water for one litre.
